Elder Victim Staff Attorney Temporary Position

Elder Victim Staff Attorney Temporary Position

Founded in 1978, SeniorLAW Center is a dynamic nonprofit public interest legal services organization whose mission is to improve the lives of Pennsylvanians 60 and older and to protect their rights through legal representation, education and advocacy. We are the only non-profit agency in Pennsylvania whose sole focus is providing legal assistance to elders and protecting their legal rights. SeniorLAW Center focuses on the needs of elders, prioritizing those who are low-income, cultural/racial minorities, the disabled, and those facing other vulnerabilities and challenges. We fight senior poverty, fraud and homelessness, provide protection from elder abuse and financial exploitation, enable grandparents to raise grandchildren, and improve access to justice. Our core values are excellence, respect, compassion, integrity, passion, creativity, and optimism.

SeniorLAW Center seeks experienced candidates to join its team of public interest attorneys and advocates. We seek a full-time Staff Attorney with at least two (2) years of experience in civil litigation (including protection from abuse, spousal support, custody and other family law issues; ejectment and landlord-tenant matters; and consumer law cases). Candidates from diverse backgrounds and orientations. VOCA-approved victim services training is a plus. Experience in a legal services office and in aging and/or poverty law, representing clients in various areas of civil law, and working with senior citizens, minority, and Limited English Proficient communities are all preferred.

We are seeking a highly professional, energetic, flexible, confident, and culturally-sensitive attorney to provide direct legal services, information and referrals to seniors who have been victims of elder abuse, financial exploitation, economic crimes and/or neglect in later life. The position involves providing client intake and direct client services, including civil litigation and legal counseling. This position is a temporary position which will cover cases in Delaware County through April 2020 and then we expect to cover cases in our Philadelphia office through September 2020.

Applicants must be active members of the Pennsylvania Bar. Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines; and a commitment to serving vulnerable and diverse communities required. Ability to work well both as a team member and individually, excellent interpersonal and computer skills, and the highest degree of professionalism are required.

Work with an enthusiastic and excellent team of public interest attorneys and advocates in a dynamic center city office. Salary is competitive in the nonprofit public interest arena, with excellent benefits.

Interested applicants should send their resume and cover letter identifying specific relevant experience and salary range requirements to the attention of Dana N. Goldberg, Esq. via e-mail to employment@seniorlawcenter.org as soon as possible. Applications without salary requirements will not be reviewed.
