SeniorLAW Center is proud to once again be participating in National Pro Bono Week, a national effort to expand access to pro bono services, by recruiting and training new volunteers in various areas of law. SeniorLAW Center attorneys Wendy Bookler and Joanna Jarzebowska will be conducting a free training on October 23, 2017 for attorneys interested in providing legal counseling through the PA SeniorLAW HelpLine, a toll-free telephone service offering free, confidential legal advice, brief services, information and referrals to those 60 and over throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Volunteers can make HelpLine calls from their own offices at times which fit into their schedules and choose the area(s) of law on which they would like to focus when counseling senior callers.

The course will focus on the most common areas of law about which callers are seeking information and the professional responsibility requirements of pro bono and telephone helpline service.  At this interactive training, attendees will also learn about the logistics of handling a HelpLine call and, once trained, will have access to resources to assist them in providing counseling and quality referrals over the telephone. CLE credits (1.5 substantive and .5 ethics) are available in exchange for two 2-hour shifts on the HelpLine. For security purposes and to order lunch, advance registration is required.  Please email jjarzebowska@seniorlawcenter.org or call 215-701-3216 no later than October 19th to register!
