Legal Services For Asian Elders
亚裔耆老法律服务计划.
In 2000, SeniorLAW Center further extended its reach into the underrepresented minorities by launching new bilingual bicultural programs of legal services for Asian elders as well. Services are available in Asian languages through the use of Language Line and professional interpreters (with advance notice). Currently, SeniorLAW Center provides services at are two community sites: the Nationalities Senior Center, 4837 N. Marvine Street in the Logan area of North Philadelphia, and Coffee Cup (a satellite of Philadelphia Senior Center), 247 S. 10th Street in Center City.
These multi-lingual legal programs provide the wide range of free SeniorLAW Center services available to all elders living in Philadelphia: free legal advice, information, and referral services; individual legal representation; community legal education; advocacy; and professional training. SeniorLAW Center focuses on the needs of those who are low-income or otherwise vulnerable because of disability, language, extreme age, frailty, or isolation.
A Chinese proverb, loosely translated, states: “To know the road ahead, ask those coming back.” This reminder that our elders are both our history and our future also reflects the mission of SeniorLAW Center — that the elderly deserve not only our compassion and respect, but also our professional attention and efforts as lawyers.
