BREAKING NEWS:
May 5th Deadline for SSI Recipients to Claim Additional $500 for Dependents
SSI recipients will automatically receive their $1200 payment. But, if you are caring for children, the IRS does not know that, and you will miss additional monies for those dependents.
Therefore, SSI recipients who did not file a tax return in 2018 or 2019 and have qualifying dependents under age 17 must use the IRS Non-Filer tool by Tuesday, May 5, 2020 to receive the additional $500 per child.
If you do not use the tool by May 5th and have qualifying dependents, you will have to file taxes for 2020 and claim the dependents then. You will still get the money, but not until next year after filing taxes. Act now to get the additional money for the dependents with your stimulus payment. SSI recipients will begin receiving their payments in May.
