Kinship and the Courts

Join SeniorLAW Center and Penn State Extension for Kinship and the Courts, as Supervising Attorney Heather Kelly introduces essential legal services available to kinship caretakers. Designed for grandparents, extended family members, and close family friends raising children in place of biological parents, this session will guide participants through their legal rights and responsibilities. Topics include how to file for custody, navigate custody proceedings, and understand the “best interest of the child” standard that informs family court decisions.
Kinship care is a term used for individuals raising children by grandparents, other extended family members, and adults with whom they have a close family-like relationship, such as godparents and close family friends, because biological parents are unable to do so for whatever reason.
This event is being offered at no charge to participants.
