About their Commitment to SeniorLAW Center

This year, we’re honoring 6 individuals and groups whose resilience and commitment to our mission supported SeniorLAW Center through the pandemic. Learn more about their partnership and advocacy below.

Bill Donohue
(Hall of Fame Award)

Hall of Fame Inductee, William J. Donohue, Esq: Bill has been an exceptional SeniorLAW Center champion for over 20 years.  As Board Chair, Treasurer, Board Member, volunteer attorney, fundraiser, ambassador and pro bono liaison he has had powerful impact on our organization in every way.  He developed our great partnership with PECO/Exelon, where he served as Associate General Counsel in Philadelphia, specializing in environmental law, most notably legal strategies to mitigate the impact of climate change.  Bill is most proud of the partnership that he helped develop between PECO/Exelon and SeniorLAW Center– highlighted by the annual bilingual legal clinic at an Hispanic Senior Center or senior-serving venue in Philadelphia. The clinic is staffed by members of the Legal Department, assisted by members of the Organization of Latinos at Exelon (OLE), who serve as interpreters. Bill has been recognized for his pro bono efforts by the Exelon Legal Department and the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel. Now retired and teaching at Temple and St. Joseph’s Universities, Bill is devoted to his wife Margie of many years, his four sons and grandchildren. We are delighted to honor this great Champion for Justice with induction into the SeniorLAW Center Hall of Fame.

Comcast’s Pro Bono Program
(Champion for Justice Award)

Champion for Justice Honoree: Comcast’s Pro Bono Program Comcast’s Pro Bono Program has been an excellent and enduring partner in mission with SeniorLAW Center and the larger Philadelphia legal services community for over a decade. Comcast’s pro bono volunteers, which have included attorneys, paralegals and other staff, have come out in large numbers for SeniorLAW Center’s Life Planning Clinics and their volunteers have taken on other projects for SeniorLAW Center. Comcast’s support of SeniorLAW Center continued during the height of the pandemic lockdowns, during which Comcast’s pro bono volunteers joined virtual clinics and the Company continued to contribute financial support for the SeniorLAW Center’s crucial work. Comcast’s eagerness to donate their time and talent has been resilient and has developed into a consistent partnership with SeniorLAW Center. SeniorLAW Center is excited to award the Comcast Pro Bono Program with the SeniorLAW Center Champion for Justice Award.

Clients
(Champions for Justice Award)

Champion for Justice Honoree, SeniorLAW Center Clients: Our resilient clients turn to SeniorLAW Center in their times of need. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people faced challenges that seemed insurmountable at times. These challenges and issues affected our client populations in ways we could not always anticipate. Before COVID-19, our clients experienced abuse and financial exploitation, faced housing crises and homelessness, and dealt with custody obstacles with their grandchildren. During the pandemic crises, these harrowing difficulties became even more acute due to quarantine and isolation. However, the older individuals we served helped advocate for change by testifying in front of legislative bodies like Philadelphia City Council. Their courage and willingness to share their difficult stories helped shine a light on the housing crisis in the city leading to the creation of emergency rental assistance programs. Their resilience and strength are why we are pleased to honor our clients with our SeniorLAW Center Champion for Justice Award.

Staff
(Champions for Justice Award)

Champion for Justice Honoree, SeniorLAW Center Staff: SeniorLAW Center’s dedicated staff truly embodied the identity of resilience during these past times of COVID. Whether it was pivoting to remote work to serve our clients or dealing with heart-breaking challenges stemming from the pandemic, the staff’s commitment to our critical mission was and remains inspiring. Their hard work fighting and advocating for justice for older people within Philadelphia and the surrounding counties resulted in rectifying financial and physical abuse, avoiding homelessness during a national housing and rent crisis, preserving autonomy for isolated and voiceless seniors, successfully advocating for grandparents’ rights to raise their grandchildren, as well as resolving many other serious challenges facing older individuals during the pandemic. We are honored to award our esteemed staff with the SeniorLAW Center Champion for Justice Award.

Jonathan Uhl & Geoffrey Price
(Champion for Justice Award)

Champion for Justice Honoree, Jonathan Uhl & Geoffrey Price: SeniorLAW Center is delighted to honor the generosity and leadership of Jonathan Uhl and Geoffrey Price, major supporters and champions of our work. Jon has a rich history with SeniorLAW Center, having interned for our organization while at Tulane Law School and making a huge impression on our clients and team. After completing a judicial clerkship, Jon worked for a leading consulting firm where he supported a diverse set of clients on a wide range of health care policy and strategy issues. Jon now leads his family’s philanthropic efforts and lives in Chicago with his husband, Geoffrey Price and labradoodle, Gene. Geoff is co-founder, Chief Innovation Officer, and a board director of Oak Street Health, the leading national primary care organization serving seniors. For nearly a decade, Geoff’s work at Oak Street has focused on leading the development and delivery of the organization’s innovative clinical and patient experience model resulting in a 51% reduction in hospitalizations and scaling to over 160 locations in 21 states, while caring for well over 200,000 seniors. We are delighted to honor these two great leaders with our SeniorLAW Center Champion of Justice Award.

In Memoriam, Bill Fedullo
(Hall of Fame Award, posthumously)

Hall of Fame Inductee, William “Bill” Fedullo, Esq: Bill was an ardent advocate, former board chair, longtime board member and champion for SeniorLAW Center.  Bill contributed immeasurably to the success of our work through his many contributions and generosity, as well as his extraordinary ability to speak and share beautifully about the plight of seniors in poverty. In speaking of his role as a board member, Bill once said, “I think part of our mission is to be constant cheerleaders for SLC,” a role which he took to heart in raising support from friends and acquaintances across the state of Pennsylvania and to tell the stories of homelessness, abuse and crisis. Bill was passionate about the struggles of those at both ends of the life cycle – children and older people – and it was a privilege to work with him to support the children of the Philadelphia School District during his tenure as Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association and beyond, and to raise visibility of our work for grandparents raising grandchildren. He and his beautiful wife Shelli Fedullo – now a SeniorLAW Center board member – each served as Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association, its highest leadership role, and also together co-chaired our SeniorLAW Center gala. On February 7, 2022, we lost Bill. We miss his irreplaceable spirit and character, humor, wit and grace. We are honored to induct this great Champion for Justice and friend posthumously into the SeniorLAW Center Hall of Fame.
