A SeniorLAW Center and AARP Partnership

Pro Bono Action for Community Impact in Pennsylvania leverages pro bono partnerships with law firms and corporate counsel to fight for systemic changes that expand legal protections and resources for vulnerable seniors. In partnership with AARP and Legal Counsel for the Elderly in Washington, D.C., this project uses the power of pro bono not to represent individual clients, as we have done at SeniorLAW Center for over 40 years, but to change the systems which affect whole communities of older people, including older Pennsylvanians statewide.

Pennsylvania is the fourth oldest state, and Philadelphia includes both the largest percentage of seniors and poorest overall population among the nation’s 10 largest cities. Issues of law and aging are affecting our housing, financial and social services, health care, and our individual lives and communities profoundly.

HOW WE HELP:

    • Together, with our long-standing pro bono partners in Philadelphia and across Pennsylvania, we will look to best practices, model legislation, and other creative solutions.

    • Instead of handling individual client matters, pro bono legal partners will work with us to impact systems, policy and laws.

  • Our goals include, safeguarding financial security, reducing homelessness, abuse and exploitation, and strengthening intergenerational families.

Watch the Video! SeniorLAW Center and AARP Pennsylvania are working together to develop innovative pro bono opportunities for leaders in the legal community. SeniorLAW Center and AARP Pennsylvania’s innovative partnership is using the power of the city’s legal community to improve the lives of senior veterans, elder abuse victims, and grandparents raising grandchildren.

Renee Chenault Fattah, a former broadcast news anchor, filmmaker and ’82 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School joined SeniorLAW Center as the Director of ProBono Action for Community Impact in late January 2020. When COVID-19’s impact on older adults become clear, Project Director Chenault Fattah and the SeniorLAW Center legal team went into crisis mode and created a host of needs focused projects. Working with legal partners in the Philadelphia Community and engaging in extensive communications outreach, the project ‘s mission is to bring information, services and social justice to those most in need at this time of greatest need.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][btn_button button_type=”default” btnalignment=”center” button_size=”2″ link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fseniorlawcenter.org%2F%7Eseniotl8%2Faccess-services%2F|title:Access%20Services||” bgcolor=”#508bbf” bordercolor=”#000000″ fontcolor=”#ffffff” hoverbgcolor=”#ffffff” hoverbordercolor=”#000000″ hoverfontcolor=”#000000″][/btn_button][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_widget_sidebar sidebar_id=”blog-sidebar”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
