SeniorLAW Center and Exelon/PECO recently hosted the All Hands In pro bono community clinic serving Latino elders on June 15, 2018, in partnership with Blank Rome. Over 40 volunteer lawyers, interpreters, paralegals and other staff (including leaders from Exelon headquarters in Chicago and SeniorLAW Center board member Bill Donohue) joined us in North Philadelphia to serve 21 Latino clients, most with Limited English, in their own language and community, executing 68 life planning documents to plan for their future health and financial decision-making and promote dignity and independence. We marked World Elder Abuse Awareness Day together, recognized all volunteers with 40th anniversary appreciation certificates, and joined together afterward in celebration. Our oldest client was 107 years old, who brought her 80-year-old daughter to accompany her…who also then joined the clinic as a client! Ms. Juana had 16 children, 38 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and 48 great-great-grandchildren.
Thank you to all of our outstanding volunteers, pro bono leaders Matt Gutt and Carmen Valentin of Exelon and Kathy Ochroch and Krystal Kane of Blank Rome. And to the fantastic SeniorLAW team. A superb day of pro bono service to the elders of Philadelphia.
