SeniorLAW Center Celebrates Jonathan Uhl and Geoffrey Price, Oak Street Health Co-Founder, at 2023 Gala as Champions for Justice

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

SENIORLAW CENTER CELEBRATES JONATHAN UHL AND GEOFFREY PRICE, OAK STREET HEALTH CO-FOUNDER, AT 2023 GALA AS CHAMPIONS FOR JUSTICE

Philadelphia-based nonprofit serving older people throughout Pennsylvania receives monumental charitable commitment from Geoffrey Price, Oak Street Health co-founder, and husband, Jonathan Uhl, attorney and former SeniorLAW Center intern.

PHILADELPHIA (May 15, 2023) – SeniorLAW Center, an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit legal services agency that pursues justice for older Americans and fights poverty, abuse and homelessness through legal representation, education, and advocacy, has received a record-breaking individual charitable gift for the second fiscal year in a row. In spring of 2021, SeniorLAW Center received word that Geoffrey Price, co-founder and chief innovation officer of Oak Street Health, and husband Jonathan Uhl, attorney and former SeniorLAW Center intern, would be directing their philanthropy to the Organization. As a result, the family made the largest ever gift to SeniorLAW Center from non-institutional donors. Geoffrey and Jonathan have generously increased their commitment this year, topping their own record for largest single gift ever received from individuals.

The generosity and leadership of Geoffrey Price and Jonathan Uhl, major supporters and champions of SeniorLAW Center’s work in elder justice, has been transformative. The Organization has been able to plan new growth, add staff, and expand their reach in the past two years, partly due to Geoffrey and Jonathan’s sustained generosity.

Jonathan Uhl’s experience at SeniorLAW Center while in law school helped to shape his understanding of elder justice and the interplay between the law, housing, and health, and multi-point delivery of services.

“When doing intake at SeniorLAW Center, I saw firsthand the varied problems facing older people, including housing and food insecurity, abuse, and lack of transportation, which impacted their health outcomes,” said Jonathan. “At the same time, Geoff and his co-founders were starting the foundation of what would become Oak Street Health to directly address poor health outcomes and negative experiences for older adults. We talked about ways to spread the word for both of these organizations, including visiting senior community centers, common rooms at senior housing facilities and by going door-to-door, and it’s amazing to see the impact they have had. We are proud to support SeniorLAW Center, an organization that means so much to both of us, and aligns with the work Oak Street Health is doing to rebuild healthcare as it should be for vulnerable older adults across the country.”

SeniorLAW Center’s board and staff are extraordinarily grateful for Geoffrey and Jonathan’s generosity and belief in the Organization’s mission. Their support and leadership will have a lasting impact on the work of the Organization and the thousands of lives they impact each year. “We are so thankful to have Geoff and Jon as leading benefactors for our organization,” said Karen Buck, SeniorLAW Center’s Executive Director. “We hope their generosity inspires others to contribute to our mission of justice. Too many older people in our country face devastating poverty, hardships, hunger and homelessness. They are true advocates and champions for justice.”

SeniorLAW Center honored Geoffrey Price and Jonathan Uhl with the Champion for Justice Award at their Gala on Saturday, May 6th at the Philadelphia Hilton Penn’s Landing. The Gala, co-chaired by SeniorLAW Center Board Member and Partner at Blank Rome LLP, Will Cruse, celebrated the resilience of the inspiring clients, advocates, and partners who bravely and generously moved the Organization’s mission forward as they navigated times of significant crisis for their clients.
