Staff attorney Susanna Ratner testified recently at a hearing before the City of Philadelphia’s Division of Housing and Community Development on the 2017 Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER) and on neighborhood housing and community development needs. Her testimony focused on the dramatic increase in reverse mortgage foreclosure filings in the city, and the specific needs of senior homeowners in Philadelphia. SeniorLAW Center often escalates complex reverse mortgage cases to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), to ensure that HUD protections are observed and enforced in mortgage foreclosure diversion court. Susanna testified that SeniorLAW Center “must continue to play this watchdog role at the national level if seniors with reverse mortgages are to keep their homes.”
