President Obama Signs the Older Americans Act

On Tuesday, President Obama demonstrated the Administration’s commitment to older Americans by signing into law the Older Americans Act.  The Older Americans Act funds a wide array of programs that are crucial to addressing poverty among older adults, including legal services.

Low-income seniors with few other resources rely on those programs to age safely and with dignity, including free legal assistance for seniors in need.  Older Americans Act programs are everyday lifelines for millions of low-income older adults and their families, and include transportation for doctor appointments and senior centers, meal delivery that reaches isolated seniors, and crucial legal services attorneys who provide free and low cost services to help seniors access the benefits to which they are entitled, stay in their homes, and fight fraud and abuse.  Senior legal services such as those provided by SeniorLAW Center are recognized as a priority service under the Act, recognizing its impact on all other aging services in keeping elders safe, secure and in habitable homes.

SeniorLAW Center applauds this commitment to the older Americans we serve every day through our many projects and programs.  Join us in the movement for elder justice!
