Tenant Rights

SeniorLAW Center serves low-income senior tenants facing any of these legal issues or who need legal information about their rights as a tenant. Philadelphia is facing an eviction crisis. And most tenants do not have counsel. Recent analysis by our partners at Philadelphia Legal Assistance demonstrated that while 81% of all landlords were represented by attorneys in Municipal Court, only 8.2% of tenants had counsel. These tenants are very vulnerable at a time of crisis – being faced with the possibility of losing their home. Affordable housing, especially housing in good condition, is difficult to obtain.

SeniorLAW Center’s Tenant Rights Project provides direct representation to eligible Philadelphia seniors facing eviction and advises tenants on their rights and remedies in both private and public housing. We also provide housing counselor referrals and potential sources for emergency rental assistance and other resources. Through our statewide HelpLine, we can counsel senior tenants on their rights throughout Pennsylvania.

SeniorLAW Center also advocates for systemic changes to improve tenants’ lives and protect their rights.

For PA seniors with landlord/tenant issues who live outside of Philadelphia, advice, information and referrals are provided through our PA SeniorLAW HelpLine.
